Tell us the story about when your passion for photography first started?
2 things sparked the fire that was my passion for photography. The first being disposable cameras. The Kodak ones everyone knows about. I grew up with them in my family, and I loved everything about it. Specifically priming the flash, that distinct sound that went along with the faint red light as it grew brighter. Pretty sure I didn't actually know what the "flash" was and thought it was part of setting up the camera for each picture though. The next, and easily what had the biggest influence, was the original Pokemon Snap for Nintendo 64. 10/10, would recommend.
What is the story behind your favorite picture?
A lot surrounding this image is significant for me. At the time, I had recently decided to pick up photography again as a hobby. I had never committed to trying to learn and grow more in that field, despite my interest since I was very young. I was fresh, driven, and bringing my camera everywhere. I took it while kayaking this day, and intended to snap some sweet shots. I knew a lot of herrings hung out along this river, and I had already spotted one that would fly further down as I got close. Pokemon Snap vibes setting in, I closely followed this herring as it took off, and snapped this. Really proud of this shot. And I took it with an old Canon Rebel T3! and with the kit 75-300mm lens!!! Reminds me that I don't need to worry about buying "better" or more gear, that 50% of what makes a picture great was the experience I had taking it!
How was collabing with the Never Seek Approval Team?
It was awesome working with Never Seek Approval! I've been wanting to shoot more portrait and street/urban photography, and this was a big step into that for me. Everyone was wicked cool to work with. I love the brand and the meaning behind it so much. I copped a black hoodie so fast, they're making a clean look, while still spreading the message to represent the environment. Be a better you, go do what you want, and Never Seek Approval for it!
